The scenic New England state of Vermont was the independent Republic of Vermont, until it became the first state to be added to the original 13 that declared independence in 1776. Vermont’s position in the north east gives the state a moist warm summer and cold winters, ideal conditions that attract thousands of skiers to the states numerous winter resorts. The state’s economy is currently languishing while agriculture, particularly dairying and maple syrup, make an important contribution. Vermont failed to attract much industrial development but as a result the state is dotted with quant and picturesque towns saved from developers bulldozers. Vermont jealously protects its name as a place of tasty quality produce and visitors enjoy discovering the gastronomic delights the state has to offer.

As Fall descends on the state, Vermont erupts into a riot of colour as the states vast forests lose their leaves. The photogenic sights make a great excuse for a visit.
Forget Aspen! Vermont’s alpine slopes have plenty of skiing and snowboarding options to pick from for all ski levels. And right on the East coasts doorstep.
