
The historical state of North Carolina is the place where first the Spanish and then the British attempted to colonise the interior. The ‘Lost Colony’ of Roanoke Island is one of the periods’ most controversial mysteries. The former Confederate state has the tallest mountain east of the Mississippi with Mt Mitchell in the stunning Appalachian Mountains which make up the states western boundary. However most of the state is gentle hill country stretching to coastal plains, ideal for agricultural which still make a valuable contribution to the local economy. One of history’s most important events occurred here in 1903 when the Wright Brothers flew the Kitty Hawk thereby launching the age of flight. With so many historical sites, amazing natural beauty, a warm year round climate the state is a popular holiday destination especially for other Americans.

A National Memorial has been erected at Kitty Hawk, the beach where the Wright Brothers took to the sky. Well worth a reflective visit.
On Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks is the Frisco Native American Museum, dedicated to preserving the heritage of the local Indian community.
