The rural state got its shot in the arm with free land grants in the 1860’s which attracted thousands of hardy easterners in search of a better life. The state still depends on the fortunes of its farmers with a strong love of the country life felt even by its city residents. Nebraskans love their sports so if you’re in town on the night of a baseball or football match you’ll be energised by the crowd.
