The US’s most exotic state strongly flavoured by its French, Spanish and African heritage is also home to the country’s most delicious and flavoursome cuisine. In 1803 the US purchased Louisiana for $11,250,000 (plus almost a quarter of the US) from Napoleon Bonaparte. The US not only got a great land deal but a colourful people and culture to go with it. Much of the state is in the mighty Mississippi’s flood plain and parts of New Orleans lay below sea level. Year round heat and humidity attract tourists who enjoy the city’s exciting annual Mardi Gras parade, unique accent, spicy Cajun cooking, paddleboat cruises, slave era Plantation mansions and of course the states famous jazz music. There is just so much to experience in Louisiana, it’s a state you really must see! Despite hurricane Katrina New Orleans is now very much back in business and eager to welcome holiday makers.
