The second smallest state, Delaware is located on the eastern seaboard but is big in charm. The first Europeans to settle the area were Dutch followed by Swedes and English. Delaware is called the First State, because it was the first to ratify the US constitution. Originally seaside Delaware was dependent on agriculture but later the states fortunes became tied to the DuPont family whose chemical business attracted a cluster of scientists and similar enterprises. Currently the business friendly corporations laws enjoyed in Delaware have attracted more than 50% of all US publicly traded companies to incorporate in the state and their presence makes a vital contribution to the local economy. The state has a mild climate and its pleasant beach resorts attract visitors from interstate, particularly to its many festivals including the highly unusual World Championship Punkin Chunkin, pumpkin throwing competition.

Annual festivals include: Chocolate Festival, Pumpkin Throwing, Apple Scrapple Festival and so many more. A great excuse for a visit.
The Kalmar Nychkel is a replica 17th Century Dutch sailing ship that brought the first settlers to Delaware’s shores.
Brandywine Zoo has a wild collection of friendly animals from every continent that promise to delight kids and their keepers.
The seaside resort town of Rehoboth Beach has plenty of something for everyone, from swimming to browsing the tax-free boutiques.
Georgetown’s Marvel Carriage Museum has an amazing collection of vehicles from the time when horses ruled the roads.
