In the heart of the old Confederacy is the conservative Bible Belt state of Alabama. Once tied to the fortunes of agriculture and cotton, the state diversified after WWII and now has a wide manufacturing base too. The state enjoys year round warmth and humid conditions influenced by the Gulf of Mexico and the states abundant rainfall. Perhaps the state’s most legendary citizen was Helen Keller, the deaf/blind women who overcame her disabilities and who still inspires millions. The friendly folk of Alabama enjoy country music, country cooking and the churches are still full on Sunday. The relaxed affordable state has plenty of historical and outdoor sites to draw visitors to experience the Deep South.

In Mobile Bay, is the WWII vintage battleship USS Alabama, now a museum that’ll promise to excite boys of all ages and their Dad’s.

The sleepy town of Decatur is home to a building of national significance, the Old State Bank Building. Pop in for a visit and marvel at the architecture and Civil War era bullet holes.
